La Gare Restaurant

La Gare blends tradition & romance with local wines and ingredients.
Walking into La Gare Restaurant one cannot help but feel welcome and see that the founders’ vision became a reality. Located in the heart of Santa Rosa’s historic downtown Railroad Square for over 30 years, La Gare’s décor and ambiance reflect old-world charm that is both warm and inviting.
Voted “Best Restaurant” and “Most Romantic” many times by its customers, La Gare has earned a reputation among locals and visitors as a place to go to for unhurried service, great customer care and attention, plus superior classic country French cooking.
Opened in July 1979, La Gare has been family-owned and operated ever since. Chef Roger and his sister Jacqueline continue a tradition begun by their parents, Swiss-born Marco and Gladys Praplan. La Gare offers superb meals—made daily from scratch from farm-fresh local ingredients—and an extensive Sonoma County-based wine list. The restaurant also offers a gluten-free menu.
The San Francisco Chronicle recently praised the restaurant:
“Long regarded as Santa Rosa’s most romantic restaurant, La Gare serves exquisite French food without being over the top. The menu is studded with traditional and adventuresome dishes such as Chateaubriand, sweetbreads and sautéed frog legs, though there are fish and vegetarian options, too. The wine list includes labels from California and a variety of wine regions in France. For dessert, try the chocolate mousse—sweet, simple and delicious.” (9/28/08)
